About Us

Our Mission

A First Step to a Brighter Future

We are committed to empowering individuals through meaningful change. Our mission is to provide the tools, resources, and opportunities that create lasting positive outcomes—not just immediate support. We focus on building long-term, sustainable solutions that help individuals achieve stability, growth, and a better future.

At First Step Forward, we don’t just support recovery—we build the foundation for a brighter, more independent tomorrow.

Welcome Message

At First Step Forward, we draw on the lived experiences of both consumers and service providers to understand the real-world challenges faced by vulnerable individuals. Our goal is to identify not only the barriers they encounter but also the opportunities that empower them to thrive.

Our approach is built around empowerment, confidence, and independence. We help individuals set and achieve personal goals while encouraging meaningful participation in family, social, and community life. Family reunification remains central to our work—acknowledging that strong, supportive connections play a vital role in healing and long-term stability.

Every aspect of our support is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centred, and recovery-oriented care. This ensures that each person’s journey is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion, tailored to their unique needs and strengths.

Building on the proven success of our sister organisation, Wirura Nyinatjaku, which has been delivering culturally safe and trauma-informed mental health services for more than six years, First Step Forward continues this legacy. Our deep experience within the NDIS framework enables us to deliver high-quality, individualised support that promotes stability, wellbeing, and independence.

Today, we’re expanding our focus to break the cycle of disadvantage by reducing recidivism and supporting individuals transitioning from custodial settings. Through stable housing, therapeutic intervention, and long-term recovery planning, we address the underlying causes of reoffending—helping people rebuild their lives with confidence and purpose.
